Apple is hosting its spring 2021 event on April 20 (Apple)

Apple has confirmed it will hold a virtual event on Tuesday, April 20 to reveal its next suite of new gadgetry.

The event will be the company’s first of 2021 and will again take place online as part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reports have suggested Apple will announce a new version of the iPad Pro, as well as a number of accessories which could include the much-rumoured AirTags – Bluetooth-enabled tracking devices to be attached to items like keys and wallets to help prevent users losing them.

Confirmation of the event came after Apple’s virtual assistant Siri appeared to reveal plans for the event, responding to questions from some users with the date of the event before it was announced by the company.

Siri’s message, which was also displayed on-screen, was: ‘The special event is on Tuesday, April 20th, at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA. You can get all the details on’

It was removed by the firm earlier on Tuesday.

The event is tipped to revolve around an update to the iPad Pro line-up.

The company’s most expensive tablet is rumoured to be getting an update to Apple’s own M1 computer processor. The in-house chip was recently debuted on a fresh set of MacBook laptops.

In addition, the new iPad Pros would come with Thunderbolt ports as well as improved cameras and screens. Like the current iPad Pro options, the new models will arrive with a choice of either an 11-inch or 12.9-inch screen.

We could also get a look at a refreshed iPad mini and, possibly, the rumoured AirTag Bluetooth trackers.

Will there be any more virtual Apple events this year?

Apple is to continue running its events virtually until at the least the summer, having already said it will hold its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) virtually for the second consecutive year when it takes place in June.

It remains to be seen whether Apple holds its event for the next iPhone (possibly in September) virtually or in person.
